Letter from the convention committe:

Attached is the brochure for the 2009 SHBE Convention to be held February 27 and 28, 2009, at the Saskatoon Inn. The convention is a great opportunity to meet and learn with other families, to network, to be encouraged, and to view and purchase curriculum material.

For our purposes, the Saskatoon Inn has been the best location for the varied program we strive to present, including keynote group addresses, workshops, and vendor exhibits. Our desire is to provide an excellent yet affordable convention. The cost for the convention is covered in part by the registration fees and by the revenue received from the vendors for their exhibit space. However, a significant source of revenue (of which many people are unaware) is the credit given to the convention for room rentals booked by convention attendees. Your reservation at the Saskatoon Inn, therefore, assists us in keeping registration costs down.

With this in mind, we would like to invite you to support the SHBE convention by staying overnight at the Saskatoon Inn. We have a block of rooms being held at a special group rate until January 27, 2009. We need 227 confirmed room nights to receive maximum credit for our hotel meeting room rentals.

Our convention theme for 2009 is “Beyond the Ordinary”. This theme embodies the heart of home educating parents who want more for their children than what the world has set out as “normal”. Our desire is that our children will rise up and become world changers focused on what is really important for today and for eternity. We trust that the convention will be a help and an encouragement along your homeschooling journey. We look forward to seeing you in February.

NEW! Homeschool Completion Recognition Event

For the first time at a SHBE conference, there will be a short event in recognition of parents and teens who will be completing their formal homeschool studies in the spring of 2009. The teen along with their parents will be invited onto the platform after being introduced. Parents will need to supply a paragraph about their teen indicating how many years they were homeschooled, where they are from and current plans or future aspirations. A group photograph will be taken after all of the introductions are made. If your family would like to be a part of this new event, please contact Linda Karn by February 15, 2009.
